I had the pleasure of attending the first ever pop-up market hosted by theBOM, black-owned market. Living in NY, I have met quite a few talented, ambitious and goal-driven individuals. One being the founder of theBOM, Michelle Dalzon. Once she mentioned the idea, concept and actually put this whole event together, I knew from the beginning it would be spectacular. The idea was to bring more awareness to black businesses and entrepreneurs and boy did she do a great job. Since she’s my friend, I already anticipated supporting the event by actually buying a thing or two while there. However, I didn’t expect to almost buy something from ever vendor but that’s how great both the experience and products were that were being sold.
There was a good variety of things you could indulge in. From skin and beauty care products, to live art installations, purchase vintage pieces all while enjoying a nice open bar. Let me give you a little background on a few of the vendors I had the pleasure of meeting. The owner of Tracy Chambers Vintage was such a joy and had very nice vintage pieces for purchase. She is locally based in the Bedstuy area in Brooklyn so I will definitely be sure to check her out in the near future. One product that I’m officially obsessed with is the cocoa vanilla shea butter mixture made by Skin Buttr. It definitely does magic on my skin and I love the fragrance. Another product I’m obsessed with are the candles made by LIT Brooklyn. The ‘home’ scent leaves such a great aroma in the house once lit. Even after once we blew the candle out for the night, the scent just lingers and gives you that “homey” feeling. Please be sure to check them out too! Last but not least, the matte lip pen from Gold Label cosmetics is a must have. This is actually my first time trying a liquid matte pen and I was impressed. I went with the new color recently released for the holidays, Power Player. Perfect nude shade and great for a natural lip.
All in all, my experience at this pop-up was nothing shy of amazing. It felt good to support a friend and a great cause. The business owners I met definitely have gained a new customer. Guys please check out these businesses and show support! Michelle, congrats again and looking forward to the many successes of theBOM.
